Jimmy Alexander returns as Chair of The JGH Foundation

In September 2025, James Alexander, better known as Jimmy, stepped back into the role of Chair of the JGH Foundation after more than 20 years. We’re thrilled to welcome Jimmy back as we continue our mission to make more tomorrows for patients at the JGH and beyond.
“I first took on the role of Chair of the JGH Foundation when I was 39 years old, and it remains a great chapter in my life,” Jimmy reflects. “I’ve always said – and still believe – that the Hospital gave me far more than I ever gave back.”
Jimmy previously served as Chair of the JGH Foundation from 1999 to 2003, and then as President of the JGH Board from 2005 to 2007.

In September 2025, David Amiel completed his three-year term as Chair of the JGH Foundation.
“I get a front-row seat to see the best of humanity,” he says. “I meet with successful people who could choose to spend what they have, but instead decide they want to give back to their community and their hospital.”

The JGH BioPortal gathers an enormous amount of data from consenting patients that can be used to identify the specific genetic and molecular changes that drive disease. The goal: To develop better treatments.
“Substantial funding from donors to the JGH Foundation allowed the BioPortal to get started,” said Dr. Brent Richards, who leads the project.
JGH Rheumatology Division takes on Quebec’s most complex cases

Most of the care in the JGH’s Division of Rheumatology is ultra-specialized, if not unique, as it takes on the most complex rheumatology cases in Quebec and even Eastern Canada.
“It is so useful to have donors support important research initiatives, along with the many other things that help us serve patients better and maintain our leadership,” said Dr. Marie Hudson, the JGH’s Chief of Rheumatology.

Donors support the care of high-risk pregnancies at the JGH

The JGH is the busiest obstetrical centre in Montreal and receives patients from across the province. Donors support it by helping to fund critical equipment, like the latest ultrasound machines.
“Having the best machine to provide the best images is crucial to making important decisions and we couldn’t do our work without it,” said Dr. Roberta Shear, Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology. “We are very grateful to the donors who have made this latest state-of-the-art machine possible.”

State-Of-The-Art Orthopedic Surgery At The JGH Changes Lives

Donations keep colorectal surgery at the Jewish General Hospital at the forefront of technology

Donor funds allowed the JGH’s Division of Colorectal Surgery to purchase a special remote-controlled multi-axis tilting operating table. Now, rather than realigning the robot’s arms to access different areas of the winding colon, surgeons can quickly and simply reposition the patient instead.
The result? Greater safety, improved efficiency, faster surgical procedures – and more tomorrows for patients.
