Event Description

Golf Classic Honours Past and Present Presidents of the JGH

For the benefit of the Karen and Murray Dalfen Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

JGHGolf2018-co-chairs.jpgThe Jewish General Hospital Foundation's 26th Annual JGH Silver Star Mercedes-Benz Golf Classic took place on May 28, 2018 at Elm Ridge Country Club. Co-chaired by Howard Dermer (left) and Ted Matthews (right), the event attracted over 220 of Montreal's foremost business and community leaders from all backgrounds. It was a splendid day and the people in attendance were able to enjoy a full day of exceptional golfing conditions, good food and good drink.

This year we had the privilege of honouring our Hospitals' presidents, both past and current and we were fortunate that 9 of our honourees joined us at the Tournament. These dedicated volunteers have been the backbone of this great institution and we were proud to be able to honour them.

The marquee event raised $620,000, thanks to the extraordinary commitment and hard work of the co-chairs, the organizing committee and the many people and institutions who demonstrated their respect and admiration for the JGH's past and present presidents. Proceeds from this year's edition will be allocated towards the establishment of an endowment fund for recruitment for the Karen and Murray Dalfen Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, headed by Dr. Apostolos Papageorgiou. The generous support of our donors is what helps keep the NICU cutting edge so the Hospital can continue to deliver extraordinary life-saving care to thousands of premature babies each year.

Since its inception, the Jewish General Hospital Foundation has raised over $20 million thanks to the Golf Classic. These funds are needed to improve medical care, life expectancy and quality of life of the people of Montreal, Quebec and beyond.

The key to this success has been the strong partnerships with Montreal's corporate and financial services communities. More specifically, it is the leadership of these communities, whose efforts ensure an impressive outcome. Past co-chairs and honourees include such pre-eminent Quebec and Canadian personalities as Mr. Morton Brownstein (Browns Shoes), Mr. Charles Larente (Scotia McLeod), the Broccolini Family (Broccolini Construction), the Honourable E. Leo Kolber (Claridge), Mr. Mel Ellen (G A Grier), Mr. Mark Smith (Pandion Limited), Mr. Michael Roach (CGI), Mr. Jacques Menard (BMO), the Schwartz and Segel families of Dorel, our friends from the Bruce Kent Group and RBC, last year's four fabulous women – Claudine Blondin Bronfman, Diane Dunlop Hbert, Emmelle Segal and Lillian Vineberg, and the list now includes the Hospital presidents:
