Power to Heal campaign delivers on excellence
Less waiting, greater capacity and faster diagnosis!

The "Power to Heal" campaign, launched on May 12, 2003, has proven to be highly compelling and effective in rallying support from every sector in Montreal and beyond and has not only reached but surpassed its $200 million goal.

The outpouring of generosity from the greater Montreal community and our corporate partners has been extraordinary. Equally wonderful have been the efforts of our tireless canvassers and volunteers who have been busy soliciting donations for the campaign. We are deeply grateful to the campaign's devoted Co-Chairs, Morton Brownstein, C.M., and Edward Wiltzer, for their unrelenting passion and commitment, and for providing us with the inspiration and impetus to rise to the challenge and bring to fruition the largest and most ambitious fundraising campaign in JGH history.

Funds raised have contributed to the establishment of new facilities, acquisition of new property and renovation of existing structures; the development of significant patient programs; the acquisition of advanced technology; the funding of vital endowments; and the recruitment of key clinician-scientists – allowing the JGH to remain at the forefront of scientific discovery and clinical excellence for the benefit of all the patients we serve.

Below are just a few examples of how every dollar donated to the "Power to Heal" campaign has made a difference:

Construction of the new Kendall Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, which uses the latest technology in angiography of the heart, as well as angioplasty and stent therapies. The facility helps JGH cardiologists unblock arteries as quickly as possible to improve patients’ odds of recovery without debilitating after-effects. It offers improved radiological imagery of the heart, more comfortable surroundings for patients and state-of-the-art equipment which will significantly improve the quality of life and care for the growing number of people suffering from cardiovascular conditions.

Bronchoscopy.jpg

Construction of the new Berall Family Videobronchoscopy Suite, with state-of-the-art equipment for improved diagnosis and treatment of malignant and benign lung diseases.

Construction of two fully equipped, state-of-the-art laboratories in the Segal Cancer Centre, known as the WEBC Laboratories.

Geriatrics.jpg

Transformative renovation of the Geriatric Nursing Unit into a state-of-the-art facility. With its unique features, including separate nursing stations for patients who are elderly and frail and those with cognitive impairment, an enhanced rehabilitation room, a sensory stimulation room and an inclusive, family-oriented environment, the Unit is the first of its kind in Quebec and significantly improves the quality of life and care for one of the most vulnerable and fastest growing segments of the population in our community.

Child Centre.jpg

Construction of the Ruth & Saul Kaplan Pavilion which now houses the very first Centre for Child Development and Mental Health in Quebec. The Centre regroups all JGH child mental health services in a child-friendly healing environment and allows the growing number of children in need and their families within our community to benefit from the inclusive, compassionate and comprehensive care they need and deserve to lead a healthy and productive life.

It has helped to dramatically reduce the waiting list for significant diagnostic procedures.

"With the right tools, we can save more lives. Donors help make it all possible."

Purchase of a Biomedicus Console Heart and Lung Assistance Device that supports patients during the first 72 hours following open-heart surgery, those awaiting a heart transplant, and patients undergoing the “mini pump” approach to open-heart surgery.

da Vinci robot.jpg

Acquisition of the latest-generation da Vinci robotic system, which allows for unprecedented surgical precision, translating into shorter operating times, less blood loss, shorter hospital stays and faster return to normal daily activities, and a decrease in potential complications in treating prostate and gynecological cancers.

RapidArc.jpg

Addition of a RapidArc linear accelerator, enabling physicians to use more complex and targeted treatment techniques to deliver higher doses of radiation to the tumour site, while reducing toxicity to surrounding critical structures. This new technology not only helps to cure considerably more patients, but reduces side effects.
